Baltic Kontor carries out pre-purchase vessel surveys in Latvia for prospective buyers who need an independent record of a vessel's condition before acquisition. The purpose and scope are agreed before attendance, taking account of the vessel and the access available. The survey records findings at the time of inspection, with photographs and recommendations where relevant to the instruction.
What the survey covers
The inspection focuses on the vessel's condition within the agreed scope. It can document visible defects and the condition of accessible areas and equipment relevant to the buyer's decision. The areas to be examined, documents available and any access limitations should be identified when the survey is instructed.
Survey report
The report records the purpose and scope of attendance, the condition observed and the material findings. Photographs and recommendations can be included where relevant. If the instruction also requires an independent opinion of value, see Condition & Valuation Surveys.
Vessel condition surveys also cover pre-entry and pre-vetting instructions. A survey at charter delivery or redelivery has a different purpose and is described under on-hire and off-hire surveys.
