On-hire and off-hire surveys document a vessel's condition and, where instructed, the fuel remaining on board at delivery or redelivery under a time charter. Baltic Kontor carries out these surveys in Latvian ports for owners, managers and charterers. The agreed scope determines what is inspected and which measurements are taken during the attendance.
Vessel condition
The condition survey records observations relevant to the agreed handover scope. Photographs and notes document the vessel at the time of delivery or redelivery, so the parties have a common dated record. The inspection scope should be settled before attendance.
Bunkers on board
Fuel remaining on board can be measured at the same attendance. Quantities are established from the vessel's tanks and calibration information and recorded for the handover. For the measurement method, sampling and fuel quality disputes, see bunker surveys.
Survey record
The record brings together the agreed scope, condition observations, photographs where relevant and fuel measurements where instructed. If the instruction instead concerns the quantity of cargo loaded or discharged, see draft surveys.
