Baltic Kontor provides independent survey attendance during cargo loading and discharge in Latvian ports. The scope depends on the cargo and the purpose of the instruction. It may cover cargo condition, quantity, handling and stowage, together with events that could later give rise to a claim. An attendance record helps the parties establish what was observed at the time of transfer.
During loading
- Pre-loading cargo condition where instructed.
- Handling, stowage, lashing and securing as applicable to the cargo.
- Sampling or quantity work where included in the instruction.
- Recording incidents and visible damage during the operation.
During discharge and outturn
- Cargo condition on outturn and visible transit or handling damage.
- Shortages or quantity discrepancies where they fall within the agreed scope.
- Photographs and observations relevant to a damage or shortage claim.
Survey record
The record may combine observations made during the operation with photographs, quantity information and cargo documents provided to the surveyor. A dispute focused on damaged goods can require a separate cargo damage survey; a dispute focused on weight can require cargo quantity control. Where individual units are counted, see cargo tally surveys.
