Baltic Kontor provides cargo quantity control in Latvia for shipments where the amount loaded, discharged or transferred needs independent survey attendance. The method depends on the cargo and the instruction. It may involve attendance during weighing, measurement in ship or shore tanks, or a vessel draft survey. Observed figures and the circumstances of measurement are recorded for the parties concerned.
Weight verification
Independent attendance during cargo weighing can be arranged to document the weighing process and the figures observed. This is relevant where a shipment is sold by weight, a shortage is alleged, or quantities recorded at different stages do not agree. The scope should identify the weighing point and documents to be reviewed before attendance.
Other quantity methods
For bulk cargo loaded or discharged by sea, a draft survey establishes cargo quantity from the vessel's draught and related measurements. For liquid cargo, quantity control may use measurements in ship, shore or rail tanks. Quantity observations can also form part of loading and discharge survey attendance.
When the instruction calls for a count of individual cargo units, the service is a cargo tally survey.
Survey record
The report reflects the method instructed, measurements or weighing figures observed, and the documents available. If the concern is cargo condition or contamination as well as quantity, sampling or a damage survey may be needed.
